The "King of the Ordning" quest from the Storm King's Thunder season allowed a DM to create a character using the Aarakocra race, and the "Death's Master" quest from the Tomb of Annihilation season allows both the Aarakocra and winged Tiefling options both quests also grant the new character enough XP to start at 5th level. Earlier seasons had similar quests, but they had to be started or completed during their storyline season.
